Why I say “No, thanks” to Medical Medium

Do you know true desperation?  I felt it when I was diagnosed with pre-hashimoto’s.  I sat on the chair as my doctor laid out all of the potential symptoms that will accompany my impending Hashimoto’s.  Even though I still did not have it, according to the current medical model, there was nothing I could do to prevent it.  I just had to wait a little more for symptoms to worsen before I could be officially diagnosed and prescribed medication.  It was (and still is) one of the most ridiculous things I have experienced! So I left feeling shocked and frustrated.  After that wore off, I began to feel determined to do something on my own.  And that’s where Medican Medium came in.

You see, I had been following Anthony Williams for a long time on Facebook and Instagram with his posts about the power of greens, their benefits and nutritional value.  After much thought, I got on Amazon and ordered two of his books after I learned that he specially talks about my soon-to-be lifelong friend, Hashimoto’s.

I really want you to understand the level of desperation I had.  I was told that I will most likely be on pharmaceuticals for the rest of my life and that there was nothing I could do about it.  I was to live with constantly low energy, struggling thyroid, dry skin, hair falling, body temperature issues and potentially many more. I saw my life going towards a direction which I had not planned for.  Of course, that is always how it happens but the planner in me, the one who needs to visualize and plan her life, could not handle this sudden diagnosis as well as I had hoped I would.

So I got his book, flipped to where he talks about Hashimoto’s with my traveler’s notebook open to take notes.  And boy did I take notes.  I wrote down all of the vegetables he said to focus on and what fruits provide the necessary nutrition for thyroid health.  Later, he directed everyone to follow a 28-day protocol.  Me, in my state of desperation and trust in his process for years, resolved to do just that.  I then told my husband who listened patiently to me, paused for a moment, and asked me if I was really certain to follow through.  The protocol Anthony Williams suggests in the book is very drastic – it is only to eat fruits throughout the day and nothing else.  He offers recipes, and sample days, but in the end, it is only fruits that will be going into your body.  So this was a very drastic thing to do and I decided to put a break on my resolve and pray istikhara.

That night I could not sleep (one of the symptoms) and decided – I believe lead by Allah due to the istikhara – and learned a lot more than I anticipated. After which, I rushed outside to read the rest of the book and the severity of what I was about to involve myself into dawned on me.

WHAT IS “MEDICAL MEDIUM”

As you began reading into the philosophy behind Anthony Williams perceived knowledge, then it becomes clear why the word “medium” is used.  According to him, he was visited and has since being accompanied by an Angel who appears in an image of an old man with a long beard who has been telling him people’s illnesses even if they themselves don’t know about it.  That angel has helped him diagnose people in his close family and strangers in the bus since he was little.  At one point, he began to receive all these secret information from the divine about illnesses that no one really knows about.  In his book, he connects almost everything to the Epsein-Barr Virus and so offers the protocol to help the body get rid of the virus and how it has manifested itself into many different diseases that we know of today.  He also claims to know information that science still does not know because he is receiving divine help from the bearded angel.

While researching for his reviews, even people who believe in these things had difficulty processing the exclusivity behind it all.  They were feeling uncertain about the fact that the angel only visits him and gives the secrets only to him (which he claims openly in the book) when other mediums they have met with find the information to be freely available.  Look, I am not going to claim to understand what any of this means fully because believing in it will take me away from the fold of Islam.

This is exactly where the core of the trouble is for me: The Shirk (and borderline Kufr) behind it all.  Towards the end of the book, he shares how else to receive healing and guidance from God.  He says to pray to different angels but not to bother praying to Angel Michael and Gabriel because “they are very busy” with the tasks given to them.  Instead, he has suggestions to pray to other angels who are … less busy.

Abdullah ibn Mas’ood (r) said, “Allah did not put the cure (for your illness) in the things which He has made unlawful for you.” (Bukhari)

So then I will pose a question for you: are we then to find a cure for our illness at the hands of someone who claims to receive wahi (divine revelation) about them? If yes, then what separates us from disbelievers?

Further, if you are tempted to think that we can take the good and leave the bad, then I have a few things to say.  The good that he shares, the benefits of the fruits and vegetables, is not secret information.  You can easily find that in many herbal and nutritional resources.  And the bad is very severe.  The bad is going to, reading the books by, following the guidance of, someone who is openly claiming to receive revelation through an Angel.  This is a serious offense against God.  I am not sure if it officially can be, but it seems to relate closely to soothsayers, and we are to stay away from any such persons.

THE CRITICISM

Apart from the overt shirk in his approach, there are a lot of things which are unsettling.  A human body is a complex system that works differently for everyone.  I have Hashimoto’s and while my systems mimic others, I have a collection of symptoms that are unique to me.  My treatment – whether holistic, natural, or pharmeceutical – will be dependent on my blood tests and body chemistry which reveal the underlying mechanisms of my body. To began to mass diagnose people and offer mass “cures” for illnesses without understanding each person is coincidental at best and harmful at worst.

Medical Medium’s 28-day protocol is only consistent of fruits.  If you were to speak with any dietitian or a health professional, they will share their knowledge about the sugar content in them and how it can harm any one if they eat too much of anything, even if it is good.  Can you imagine if your breakfast, lunch and dinner consists of nothing but sugar laden foods?  One review was appalled when her health and specially her daughter’s health take a dangerous turn due to the sugar content, which lead her daughter to develop life threatening health conditions as a direct result of following such protocol.

His approach to diagnosing and healing relies on nothing but receiving the guidance from the angel, claiming to have information that even science has not caught up to yet. There is no science or research involved in any of his cures. You know how I am all about alternative treatments and healings, having benefited heavily from them, but all of them are based on science, age old, tried and tested practices. Why give your body, the only body you have, to someone who’s only backing is divine guidance (which we, as Muslims, don’t believe in anyway)? Furthermore, Anthony Williams no longer takes appointments.  Before, he used to charge an upward of 500-600 dollars for the first session, without any follow up sessions.  The price is now similar for others who claim to work under him.

PERSONAL OPINIONS

I approached Anthony William’s literature after following his social media presence.  Without a doubt, his marketing is very compelling.  All he shares is miraculous celery juice cures and the benefits of different fruits and vegetables.  When you do invest in him, when you pay for his materials to have in your hands, then you began to understand the reality of the situation.  Allah (swt) seized any revelation after Prophet Muhammad (s) and any secrets He wills to share with His Slaves are with His Slaves.  Anthony Williams who claims to have an angel tell him things is not His slave.

Additionally, I felt nothing but scammed by him.  I approached him after desperation, after believing that he is merely compiling information that is readily available to everyone who seeks to do so.  Instead, he is claiming to be a Medium, sharing “cures” that even science has not caught up with, and leading people towards protocols and treatment methods which can seriously damage a person’s health.  Once I was browsing through this facebook after learning all of this about him and come upon a comment of a person who was suffering from quite serious (not severe) health concerns which manifested themselves throughout a month of dedication to his methods.  What was the response she received from others? “It is your body getting rid of the toxins” and to continue to persist.  SubhanAllah.  Knowing the fragility of a human body and how one wrong thing can have a lasting impact, I was shaken to see how many people are told the same things while their body continue to reject this so-called divinely inspired protocol.

I was relieved upon relieved and continue to offer my deepest thanks and gratitude to Allah (swt) for being saved from following into the trap of Medical Medium.  I have no doubt about his inauthenticity, his deceptive ways to lead people astray for a few bucks (and you can see how his popularity continues to grow), and to take advantage of those who are desperately seeking to heal themselves, or even find relief, to life altering diagnosis.  Allah lead me to pray istikhara and protected me from serious harm to my body and soul.  That is why I am shaken when a fellow believer shares him with me, not knowing what he really is about.

Now I seek the benefits of organic foods through other sources – tried and tested by herbalists and scientists – and refuse to follow anything that is associated with the Medical Medium.  Every time someone tags me on his posts or directs me to the so-called success stories, I have conflicting feelings of gratitude for the person who cared enough to think about me and then sadness that yet another person does not know the reality behind Anthony Williams.

Alhumdulillah for everything.  I did not intend to write anything about my experience and what I learned while dealing with Medical Medium’s books, but felt compelled to as more and more of my fellow brothers and sisters continue to lay their trust in him.

I hope this post benefited you in one form or another.  I encourage you to research on your own and find resources to help you deal with your condition without falling into a gimmick of someone who claims to have all of the answers.

Did you really read his book? The 28 day protocol is not just fruits….it’s ment to be raw stuff mainly but includes vegetables, nuts and seeds in moderation, even steamed vegetables if you wish and potatoes/sweet potatoes…not sure where you got the information that it is fruits only but certainly not from his book and recommendations….

    • SunnahLiving

I appreciate your comment, Maria. I did purchase two of his books and went through them with much enthusiasm as I was desperately looking for a solution for my illness. I remember flipping through the 28-day protocol and saw that as well. I was intent on following it until Alhumdulillah it dawned on me that I was agreeing to follow medical advice of a person who has had no training at all except through conversations with a “spirit.” That led me towards further research and my ultimate decision to not follow his approach. You are welcome to do as you wish. Thank you for stopping by.

        Assalamualaykum dear sis,

Thank you so much for sharing this. I also came across the truth last night and today decided to find out if other Muslims had discovered the truth behind his credentials (if any)
Thank you for writing about it! I have already shared your blog with a few sisters who were (like me) ignorant to his background.

BarakAllahu feeki and I pray other Muslims also realise the severity of this mans claims and his practises.

        Best regards,

        Bint Ibrahim

Alhudmulillah! Allah guided us away and towards the truth. Thank you for your comment, my sister, and for sharing it with others. I also hope that more become aware and peel themselves away from that line of thinking. JazakAllah kheir katheer.

    Dear Sister,

May Allah’s peace be upon you, ameen.

I hope you are happy and well in the fitnah of our times.

I was actually searching online for any experiences my Muslim brothers or sisters may have had with following the Medical Medium’s advice. And I’m very glad that you have shared your experience with us.

I have been trying to follow some of Anthony William’s advice for the last 7 months – to help me battle the long-term IBD and CFS viruses iv’e been struggling with for the last decade.

I do realise my comment is a few months out of touch, however, I was wondering if you still have the Medical Medium 📖 book that you have quoted in your post?
If do still have it (when you have time) could you please respond to my requests?

You state that Mr A. Williams says towards the end of his book: “He says to pray to different angels but not to bother praying to Angel Michael and Gabriel because “they are very busy” with the tasks given to them. Instead, he has suggestions to pray to other angels who are … less busy”. Could you please therefore provide some-sort of evidence for this?
For example, a few images of the script in his book/books and any other forms of shirk he asks of his readers/followers to engage in – which he makes mention of in his books?

Forgive me dear sister, It’s not that I am calling you a liar (I just need more clarity) as I do not have these 📚 books of his, and was nearly taken a-in by this possessed Medium, that was until (SubhanAllah) I came upon your great advice.

However, I still must continue to follow (some) of his advice regarding the daily celery juice, and to include more fruits and vegetables into my diet because it has (by the will and power of Allah) helped improve my symptoms of IBD (Alhamdulilah, been off all meds for a good few months) and improve the (at times crippling) CFS condition that I’ve been battling against since my mid-teen, College days.

On a side note: I do happen to agree with Maria Gandolfo that it seems you have missed the fact that the Anthony Williams advices us to eat many other foods aside from only eating just fruits.

And could you please reply to my mail address in order for you to attach the scripts that I have requested?

May Allah’s peace be upon you, ameen.

      Wa Alaikumussalam brother,

JazakAllah kheir for your kind and respectful comment. I am very happy to hear that you have been getting relief, SubhanAllah. That is wonderful news!

I am also happy to read that you investigate claims. To research and find evidence should be our top priority, especially when it comes to a blog. Unfortunately, I no longer have the book. I returned it the following day after I read all of the shirk in there. I know he does not mention those things in his social media profiles (I used to follow those as well) but he relates all of the story on how he discovered he was a medium in the beginning of the book. And then says what else can be done besides his techniques that, according to him, only he knows that is to pray to the angels in the way that I wrote. If you do not wish to purchase the books, then maybe you can find them in the library? I am sorry that I can not be of more help in that.

Perhaps you can take the good and leave the bad as it has been helping you. I am not in the position to advise on that matter.

I do wish your recovery continues and Allah ﷻ grants you complete shifa. Ameen.

        As-salamualaykum sister,

I was just reading your post on the medical medium.
I used to suffer from chronic fibromyalgia, I had all types of debilitating symptoms that started when I turned 19, like severe nerve and muscle pain, numbness, panic attacks, depression etc.. The pain was so bad I had to quit studying, I couldn’t work and it got to the point where I couldn’t walk more than 5 minutes without feeling like I was going to collapse. I was struggling emensly.

I adopted medical medium information and over a course of about 2 years all my pain and about 95% of my symptoms where gone. This remains to this day, and I still follow most of his dietary guidelines. My husband who is Muslim, whom I met at the very beginning of my medical medium journey, also healed lifelong chronic back and neck pain by adopting his reccomended diet and supplements.
Allhamdullilah I accepted Islam last year and since studying the Quran more and commiting more to my religious responsibilites I have been questioning Medical Medium even more and going over his books with a different perspective.

I agree with you there is something very shirkyyy about his information, he talks about fallen angels and says angels have free will and can basically stray from a righteous path and become egotistical, from an Islamic perspective I believe this is incorrect and sounds more like he is describing jinn ? What do you think.

At the end of the day I worship and turn only to Allah for help and guidance now, but I find myself agreeing with a lot of what he says about our current system which is broken and as Muslim’s we know is influenced heavily by the Dajjal.

But I am also aware that Iblis praises jinn who lead people astray through shirk. So I believe by getting people to pray to angels and call on them for help rather than Allah swt he is obviously leading people astray and helping Iblis, what do you think? I don’t adopt the spiritual aspect of his advice, but from a diet and lifestyle point his information doesn’t go against Islam, as he does not reccomend us to consume pork, alcohol, msg and other harmful substances labelled as “safe”. Just fruits veggies herbs and vitamin supplements. For me it’s just the spiritual aspect and advice I do not adopt.

I believe Allah swt put medicine in our food and I have experienced the benefits from his blessings of natural food. And I believe our diets should consist mostly of living foods, as most foods are packaged, laden with salts harmful oils and additives, that make us sick or in my case agrivate my symptoms.
I am reliant on fresh fruits and vegetable to keep my symptoms away.

Also I thought I would mention one of his closest students whom he directly trained as a medical medium practitioner is a Muslim, well I now question wether she still is, but her name is Muneeza and she helps people heal with his information and direct guidance. She still celebrates Ramadan from what I believe as she makes posts acknowledging the sacred month and talks about how she was very ill during her visit to Makkah where she completed Hajj, and prayed for help from Allah swt and after she met Medical Medium so she believes he does work for God and that his information is from God and is a mercy to humanity in these dark times.

As well I thought I would mention he does not say that the spirit he is in contact with is an angel he said this spirit is the living word “compassion” and this spirit of compassion says that it sits at the finger tip of God.

I think it’s important for us as
Muslim’s to discuss this because like you said he is becoming more and more popular and especially during these times it is important for us to guard ourselves. Thank you for addressing this, May Allah accept your deeds and efforts and may he protect us all from the evil of the trail of the false mesiah.
        Peace and blessings sister. Jazakiallah.

    Salam aleykum

Like you i’m a practising muslimah and was diagnosed years ago with Hashimoto thyroditis.
I searched a lot how to heal as our Rabb told us that there was no illness without shifa.
This was more important to me than the statement of the physician who said that i would never heal from this mystery illness.
Truth is, the medical establishment doesn’t know the cause nor the cure for the illness.
I found out that one has to detox from what causes us illnesses and after i tried this i got rid of my medication praise to Allah!
But still, there were some symptoms.
I came across my first book from medical medium , “cleanse to heal” last september and tried it right away.
The succes from the only 9 day long cleanse was phenomenal.
Before i began this journey i did a lot of Istikhara prayers.

I read the quran evry day and what i learn with medical mediums books is not in conflict with what i read in the Qur’an.
In my opinion he’s sent to help humanity in these modern times of chronic illnesses, as last ressort.
Those who turn to him are those who have tried evrything and didn’t find solutions.

I think in order to give evryone a chance to heal as a rahma from Allah ( you know Rahma is for evryone, believers and disbelievers) he can’t preach religious dogma , people would turn away and there would be no chance for their children.
And many desperate chronic ill people actually began to believe in God when following AW.

Sorry i didn’t read all your blog because it’s quite long but regarding calling angel for help, which i don’t do as Allah is enough, but i heard twice times from different sources that Omar radiAllahu anhu called the angels for help in a battle.
Unfortunately i don’t have the source.
MM doesn’t say to PRAY to the angels.

Btw, the voice he hears is not an angel, it’s written in his first book, where he said it comes from “the essence of compassion”.
Personally i have no problem as muslim to believe that Allah can give a voice to this.
In the grave we will be accompagnied by a person who represents our deeds, beautyfull if they were good and ugly if they were bad.

    WAllah ta’la a’lam

I really hope you give AW another try and read the books carefully (!) , DETAILS MATTER ( it’s not only a fruit and vegetable story ) and don’t hesitate to check with the quran what he says,
As we say: do your homework, don’t let others do it for you.
Don’t listen blindly to people who might refute him without having really studied his books.

May Allah subhanaHu heal you a complete shifa and bless you in this holy month of ramadhan

(And last but not least. What do we know who’s behind thyroid medication? Are these people believers? How can you say for sure that they don’t worship the devil? Do we really care? Why is it that most people don’t question the medical establishment but when someone comes with natural solutions coming from a spritual source we blame him?
Personally i have seen enough espacially the last three years to not trust them anymore.)

Please forgive my not so perfect english and all spelling mistakes!

    Salam

      Wa alaikumussalam dearest sister Yusra,

JazakAllah their for sharing your experiences and views on this topic so respectfully and beautifully. And ameen to your duas and I pray the same for you! I hope that your health continues to improve from your cleanse. How is it going seven months in? I would love to know the progress.

Although you have made some great points for me to consider, there were some things that came into my mind that I wanted to share with you. My memory of what I had read was already blurry by the time I wrote this article and it is even more blurry now. The book I had read front to back was “Medical Medium: Secrets Behind Chronic and Mystery Illness and How to Finally Heal.” So I decided to read up more on his website after reading your response. Before I mention that, I do want to clarify something. I completely agree with you about the medical model today and how much of a failure it is. I am a victim of it as you and I can not imagine how many others are as well. It did not help me but continued to fail me in the most simplest yet harmful of ways. I now work with a naturopath who has been able to help me by combining the herbal medicine with allopathic medication alhumdulillah. It was due to the desperation of the medical model saying “there is nothing we can do” where I sought out Medical Medium’s books since I had been following him for a while at that time.

I believe in having some sort of a background in the knowledge one is practicing. On his website MedicalMedium.com, it states, “Anthony was able to converse with the Spirit of Compassion, who provides him with extraordinarily advanced healing medical information that’s far ahead of its time.” Also, “Anthony now dedicates much of his time and energy to listening to Spirit of Compassion’s information and placing it into books so everybody can have an opportunity to heal.” Lastly, the website confirms that “Neither Anthony William nor Anthony William, Inc. is a licensed medical doctor or other formally licensed health care practitioner or provider.”

My issue with Medical Medium, apart from the “Spirit of Compassion” situation (which is religiously problematic entirely from a theological perspective) is that he claims all of his information comes from that Spirit. He does not have basic rudimentary knowledge of anything related to the human body and has been using it since, as the website states, the age of 4. If I am going to hand over my body to someone, I want them to have good knowledge. When it comes to teachers while we are seeking knowledge, they need to have a chain of transmission… where did they learn from? Who was their teacher? What was the methodology? Who taught them? Who can vouch for them? If I am going for a regular doctor, learning from a university, or anywhere where there is benefit, everyone has that chain. There is no background information on him except that he gets this secret information which no one else gets but him through that Spirit. It was this information that sealed it for me that I can not trust him. The information he provides about healing modalities of herbs and food is something that is available from other herbal traditions. One can seek them out from there. I believe he is able to put them together into a single platform but then adds onto that using, as he says, the secret Spirit’s information.

Finally, this is purely coincidental but while reading his book, I remember he said that Hashimoto’s origins can be traced back to the Epstein Barre Virus. Just two years ago, for another reason, my naturopath tested me for it and I was negative. I had never gotten the EBV virus. It is also dangerous to write a single protocol for everyone without knowing their health background history. What my protocol is is extremely dangerous for someone in my family who has another disorder, for instance.

As per your Hadith reference about Umar رضي الله عنه, since we aren’t qualified and do not know the authenticity of it, it is not wise for us to discuss it. We do know that Prophet ﷺ made dua to Allah ﷻ and Allah ﷻ sent the angels to help the muslimeen during the battle of Badr. Us reciting duas for protection also places them at our bedside, while we go outside, while we drive, etc. It is only through Allah’s command and us pleading to Him for help does He send the Angels who do not do anything except if He commands it. Maybe my memory is fuzzy and he did not include that as part of the protocol but it was definitely included in his book that I mentioned towards the end where he said to pray to other angels because Angel Gabriel is busy. He was including his personal beliefs in there which makes sense since his practice is based on his personal beliefs. But you are right in that he does not make it a necessary part of his protocols, alhumdulillah.

After reading your comment, I gained another Muslimah perspective and that was very beneficial. I hope whatever protocol you follow, you feel comfortable with it and that it benefits you and helps you heal with the will of Allah ﷻ. In all, we only seek to please Him and we put our trust in Him alone.

      JazakAllah kheir,
      Samia

As-salamu aleykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuHu dear sister

Which was the chain of knowledge of al Khidr?
From Whom did he get his knowledge?

In which sura is he mentioned, and for what time this sura is extremly important and may be a protection for us ?

    😉

What is the chain of knowledge of western medecine ?
Is it from an all knowing source?
Or is it from try and failure?
    Who is financing the tries,
and if there is failure, what about the victims?

Those who finance the experiments, for what gain are they doing it, for the sake of The Most High?

Do we really have time for try and failure (may it be conventionel medecine or naturopathy) when (even unborn) children are allready sick,
and more and more young people are prisoned in crippling illness?

Who has the time for decades of try and failure to find out that EBV can hide in your liver,
that after the thyroid the virus attacs the nervous system causing chronic constipation and pain in the body and can even provoke MS ?

Who has the time to wait that science tells us that viruses and other pathogenes feed on heavy metal and chemicals causing us brain fog and other brain disturptions?

Can you agree to try several chelation methods without having decades of safe prooved data where there is absolutely no conflict of interest ?
Do data without any industrial interest even exist theses days?

    Another point about hearing voices….

The evil spirit whispers from the inside,

    ( sura an naass)

While the voice Anthony William hears is from outside,
when he closes his ears with his hands he can block it.

My best wishes and love to you!

    Salamu aleykum wa rahmatuLlah

Wa Alaikumussalam wa rahmatullahi dear sister,

You’ve asked great questions for reflection. I just have two points to add to the list of things to think about:

      • I feel there is a strong need of caution when bringing Khidr رضي الله عنه to this conversation as he was chosen and a wali of Allah who can traverse long distances in short time, among having other miracles. Meanwhile Anthony Williams is a nonbeliever who does not believe in Islamic monotheism and believes in a God that has partners (shirk). Allah is the source of all knowledge and Him giving knowledge to a disbeliever about the ghaib seems a very problematic thing to say. Also, he is most definitely not doing it for Allah ﷻ.

      • Anthony Williams was wrong about EBV in my case as I was tested negative for it and it is not connected to my condition even though he emphatically addressed it in his book.

I pray that Allah grants you healing and ease. And that He guides us to only that which pleases Him. Ameen.

      JazakAllah kheir,
      Samia
