BASIC BREAKDOWN
Samia receives “The Game” from Freshly Grounded and they play this game while being honest and vulnerable.
The first question is for Samar: who is your biggest cheerleader? She responds that it is her Mother who has always been really supportive.
The next question is for Samia: what was a point in your life when you started believing in yourself? She responds that the majority of her life she didn’t believe in herself. For her, this is measured by physically seeing her work. This began with her henna business but only this year she realized how she has grown and created so much on her own. A new skill and endeavor is narrating books,
Samar reinforces how Samia has grown over time. She was the first one to move, work and attend college at the same time. Starting Sunnahliving and blogging without any help from anyone was also all on her own merits. Samar is surprised that Samia sees her accomplishments as something very recent.
The next question is for Samar: when you are the double of your age, what would you like to be? This is difficult for her to answer since she lives day by day and her biggest goal is always to be content and happy, which she feels she is accomplishing today. By putting into words another goal for that time would be putting pressure on herself so she just wants to stay happy.
Samia shares her view that happiness is something one works towards while contentment is something that resides within, regardless of circumstance. Samar thinks contentedness is a prerequisite to happiness.
She gets another question since she didn’t like the last question: what are you preventing yourself from feeling? The answer is ‘feeling worthy’. It is hard for her to see that she is worth being in a better place than she is now. Not that she isn’t deserving of what she has but rather she isn’t deserving of what she could have. She thinks it’s quite bad but the first step is realization and you work on it.
When she reaches the new height she knows she is worth it since Allah has given her that experience or circumstance. Imagining anything more is what is difficult for her as she feels guilty. Samia realizes that this explains some things in their conversations.
The next question is for Samia: what steps could you take today to be closer to Allah? She shares that recently she took a mindful meditation class which was from an Islamic, spiritual perspective, which she would like to incorporate into her daily life. This was ‘The Productive Muslim’ and did not involve shirk but presented another way to connect to Allah.
There are different ways to do this that were taught in the class. One method was to think of Allah’s name and meditate on it. Another method was to go limb by limb and being grateful for it while also seeking forgiveness done by each limb. All of this may be under the umbrella of dhikr.
Samar shares that she took a yoga class in University and at the end of each class they would meditate and Muslims can definitely incorporate this. It is in Islamic tradition but we do not give it the importance it deserves. If one is meditating but spirituality is not a part of it, there is a missing element.
The next question is for Samar: what are you most thankful to Allah for this week? She doesn’t want to go too personal. Recently she did something that she had never thought she was able to do, so alhamdulillah she could do something that she could not do before and she was truly thankful to Allah for it.
Samia shares her alhamdulillah moment. Her dishwasher required deep cleaning and she has not had hired help since she moved to this house. She woke up with a lot of energy the day before and was able to tackle the dishwasher. She was grateful for having it and being able to clean it, having the energy for it was a great moment.
